AGAVE Firn-Ice Probe
The AGAVE (Antarctic Geophysics Along the Vostok Expedition) probe is used to make glaciology measurements: temperatures are being measured 2.4m below the surface of the ice on Antarctic plateau during the 2013-2014 season.
This project was carried out in partnership with the Russians on the traverse from Mirny, Antarctica, to the Russian station at Vostok. At each stop, they made temperature and photographic measurements.
These measurements, together with stereo photos of the surface, will aid in modeling radio transmission through the top layer of the ice.
