Discriminating Detectors & High-Power Pulsers
Detection systems need to both acquire a signal with high integrity and reject signals which are false.
Nowhere does this requirement show up more than in the detection of cosmic ray particles. Typically, there are 1011 "false positives" for every real signal.
Consequently, real-time logic is required to distinguish the signal from the noise.
Among these examples, there are neutrino detectors, deployed at the South Pole, and cosmic ray particle detectors deployed elsewhere.
In addition, careful attention must be paid to calibration; those devices are shown as well.
