Communications Flexibility
Optimize Communication
Optimize the means of communication -- across the bench, or across the world.
Typically, an instrument may be provided with USB, RS-232/RS-248, Zigbee wireless, synchronous serial, or Ethernet (raw TCP or HTTP, cabled or wireless) communication, according to user needs.
- The Instrument Web Interface at the right is a complete web server that delivers displays of data and interactive control as well as a stream of raw data. The IWI allows an experiment to join what has recently been called "the Internet of Things."
- At the far right, the Power and Communications Unit (PCU) for a diverse group of remote instruments at the South Pole aggregates the data so it can be sent over satellite in a single stream.
- USB modules work seamlessly with the PC GUI or script.
- Other wireless or wired devices are easily swapped in.

The IDL Instrument Web Interface (IWI) webserver, a webserver on a chip which can acquire and display data from an instrument or experiment. Screens to set variables can also be included. The AARPS Power & Communications Unit aggregates multi-sourced data streams and sends them in a single stream through satellite channels.
